Telkomsel Flash Unlimited

Yes, finally Telkomsel launches new package for its 3G Internet service: Telkomsel 3G Flash Unlimited. Previously in my post, Telkomsel Flash was charging on time-based or usage-based, but in unlimited package: no usage quota anymore, but now bandwidth speed is chopped.

Telkomsel Flash Unlimited can only be applied by kartoHalo subscribers, which means you have to be existing Telkomsel Halo GSM postpaid customer to enjoy this package. You have to be existing customer to apply this offering, at least 3 months. There are 2 offerings, one with free USB HSDPA Modem (I believe the model is Huawei E220, let me know okay?) and the other one is data subscribing only. To apply for free modem, you have to subscribe 1-year-contract package.

How to Setup Reversed Proxy to Domino Web Server

Finally, the guy (Djitz) who successfully implemented reversed proxy posted his guide in setting reverse proxy to work with Lotus Domino Web server. Domino server used in this case is Domino 7.0.1.

The case might be like this: you have a domino web server, but it has only local IP address and will be kept like that. Then you have an Apache web server in which published as public/Internet IP address. Your company doesn’t implement neither RAS nor VPN. Now your boss wants to be able access his domino webmail or web applications from any Internet stations during his business trip. So how can Internet users access that local Domino Server? The answer is to implement Reversed Proxy.

Read complete guide at here. Thanks Djitz, this guide is invaluable!

Esia changes SMS Plan, now Rp 1/character

Starting today (15-May-08) CDMA Celullar provider Esia launches new campaign for its SMS Plan. This is the first in Indonesia, and I believe also the first at least in South East Asia.

Usually SMS or text message tariff is charged per message sending, but now Esia charges you in character basis, which is Rp 1/character, no matter recipient’s operator. Let’s say you sms friend ‘r u bz?’, then this 7 characters sending will cost only Rp 7,-. Very cheap right?

For those who love abbreviation, this is a saving. But when sending a full sms (an sms can contain max. 160character), it is quite expensive since overall sms sending cost in other GSM/CDMA operators now only Rp 100/sms. But I can tell that most of people’s sms only contain less than 50 characters, based on my experience when receive other’s sms.

At last, as most Esia users know, failure rate in sending sms using Esia is a bit high. So this time Esia has to convince users: is it reliable?

Meet and Greet with China Thomas and Uber Badminton Team

Last night I and my wife was luckily enough gained ticket to attend meet and greet event to welcome China badminton team which will play to keep current holding Thomas and Uber Cup ( 11-18 May 2008). They come in full team lead by manager Li Yongbo, including world champions such as Lin Dan, Bao ChunLai, Fu Haifeng+Cai Yun, Xie XinFang, etc.

The event held on Sultan Hotel (9 May) attended by a hundred persons invited by China Embassy in Jakarta and sponsored by Bank of China. Pack with some local entertainments, but the rare chance was to get each player’s photograph. There was chances to play mini badminton on the stage with Lin Dan, Xie Xing Fang, Gao Ling, and Bao Chun Lai, too!

Hey, I got photo with Lin Dan!

The Thomas and Uber Cup will be aired live on Trans7 and TransTV everyday from 13.00 till night, final match will be on 17-18 May so don’t miss it. Ticket price to watch by your own eyes also affordable, from IDR 25000 (qualifying round) to IDR 75000 (final match) for normal ticket. Don’t worry if you don’t get seat on center court since entire seat in the stadium can watch matches in detail. Also don’t worry about your safety. Just have to plan where to park your car.

OpenOffice 3.0 Beta

OpenOffice.org just launched their office suite version 3.0 beta! And the good news for Mac users: it is native for Intel and fully Aqua look.

Tried previous version 2.0, I concluded it was to slow and buggy. But this time after I downloaded OpenOffice 3.0 beta (160+MB), I think I like this freeware. Loading application is pretty fast (can be compared with loading Pages/Numbers or Ms Office for Mac). Most documents created from Ms Office can be loaded and displayed correctly. It support Open Document format, as well as Ms Office 2007 document type.

I recommend this OpenOffice as your replacement for Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac. No point using expensive software just to write documentation or simple spreadsheet. Unless you are working at Financial institutions, need sophisticated charts to impress our boss’ ass, then you may use Ms Office.

And just to remind you about the price. The price for this software is FREE. So why you still stick with and pay for Ms Office license?

Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?

SmarterBeing stucked in hotel room most of my time in Papua New Guinea, I turned my whole nightlife to television. One of my favourite tv program was “Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?“, in Star World channel. It was actually a Fox TV program, but for cable tv in Asia you can watch in Star World.

The setting is in a huge classroom (tv studio set), watch by many people. There are 5 classmates, each is 10 year-old boys and girls. Original cute and smart classmates were: Laura, Spencer, Kyle, Alana, and Jacob . An adult contestant bring to the show can choose classmate to accompany him to answer questions. There are 10 questions, ranging from social science, animal science, earth, grammar, 1st grade spelling, etc, all are subjects taught to grade 1 to grade 5 students in primary. Each question given will be also answered by all classmates by writing to their ‘worksheet’. From here you might think that it must be a very easy question? You’re wrong.
