Dude, awesome trick!! It saved my white macbook and now I can boot it again to back it up.

I was configuring a switch when my macbook froze. It asked me to turn it off because it went fubar. When i booted it, found the simptoms described above.

I had a Time Machine backup, but i had a bunch of important stuff to save that were made today.

Dunno if a beer can be sent thru fedex, but you certainly deserve it!

Thanks a lot!

Ha, yah, I'll try that. Thanks. By the way, how many space (external harddisk) do you need to back up all the system?

Thanks for prompt response. Luck, yes, I need that badly now.

@Adrian, I never had a result with Disk Utility's repair, hope you'll get better result.

Suggest you to use Time Machine (see above steps) to backup the system and data, then restore them again.

Another option is to Install Mac OS from the installer disk, then there should be an option to "Repair" or "Re-Install", this will update file system without deleting data.

Lastly is to launch Terminal (still boot using Installer disk, then choose Tools - Terminal). Copy all data to external USD harddisk. After this you can format and perform clean install.

Good luck!

Hey, wait a minute, I find this magic key from other blog: Press Command+Option+R+P while turn on the computer. It 'zaps' the memory it says. I did this and manage to eject my CD!

I turn it off again.

Then I tried again your tips: Press option while turn on the computer. It shows only the hard disk image with arrow below it. Then I insert the CD, it shows up beside the hard disk image! I click the CD image and press the arrow below it, and it enters the installer menu.

I quite the installer menu and choose disk utility, then choose the mac harddisk, then click repair.

It's still working now. Tell you the result later.

Hi, it's nice to find your blog here.

I have the same problems as you do. Cannot boot my black macbook. All I got is a white screen with grey apple in the middle of it, and progress circle round a round.

Tried the above methods and none of it works. Lastly, I insert the installation CD1 and press C while turn on the machine. Now I have blank white screen, grey apple in the middle of it, a progress circle, and a stuck CD inside it... :(

Don't know what to do now. There goes my dozens of dollars mighty mac...

Is there any other suggestion though? Thanks.
