Movie Review: Ocean Thirteen

My rating: 7 from 10.

Ocean ThirteenWhat are the odds of getting even? Danny Ocean and the gang would have only one reason to pull off their most ambitious and riskiest casino heist–to defend one of their own. But they’re going to need more than luck on their side to break The Bank.Ruthless casino owner Willy Bank never imagined that the odds were against him when he double-crossed Danny Ocean’s friend and mentor Reuben Tishkoff, putting the distraught Reuben in a hospital bed in critical condition. But Bank miscalculated–badly. He may have taken down one of the original Ocean’s eleven, but he left the others standing and, worse for him, gave them a shared purpose: to take Bank down on the night of what should be his greatest triumph–the grand opening of his new casino, appropriately named The Bank. Their strategy is twofold. First they will ruin him financially by turning the tables on the precept that the house always wins. But that’s just money.

I didn’t get to excited when watching Ocean Eleven and Twelve. The plot was to flat for me to keep me awake. But this sequel is better. A con show packed with comedy and big star (George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Al Pacino, so on). At least it is quite a good film and I didn’t fall asleep.

Movie Review: Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End

My Rating: 6/10

Pirates of the CaribbeanPirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End is a 2007 adventure film, the third in the Pirates of the Caribbean films following The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003) and Dead Man’s Chest (2006). At World’s End is helmed by Gore Verbinski, director of the previous films, and the cast includes returnees Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley, Bill Nighy, Geoffrey Rush, Jack Davenport, Tom Hollander and Naomie Harris. Chow Yun-Fat makes his first appearance in the franchise as Sao Feng, one of the film’s antagonists, as does Keith Richards as Jack Sparrow’s father. (from Wiki)

All my watching Pirates movies ends with a intermittent fall-asleep. That means the films were so boring and to long for me (and for most audience). Well, I’ll not recommend this film to anyone.

Movie Review: Next

My Rating: 7 of 10

Next MovieLas Vegas showroom magician Cris Johnson has a secret which is a gift and a curse which torments him: he can see a few minutes into the future. Sick of the examinations he underwent as a child and the interest of the government and medical establishment in his power, he lies low under an assumed name in Vegas, performing cheap tricks and living off small-time gambling “winnings.” But when a terrorist group threatens to detonate a nuclear device in Los Angeles, government agent Callie Ferris must use all her wiles to capture Cris and convince him to help her stop the cataclysm. (from Yahoo Movie)

Played by Nicholas Cage, this film offers great joy of watching. Somehow the plot ends with not-satisfactory twist. If I didn’t watch the ending I could have given this movie a higher score.

Blitz Cinema in Jakarta

Well, after trying Blitz Megaplex Cinema in Bandung (see my post Paris Van Java), today is its soft opening in Grand Indonesia Jakarta. Not much can be revealed: ticket price, schedule, and promotion (HSBC Credit Card Promo should be brought here too :) ), but I think it is the largest screen in Indonesia – 11 screens.

What I expect is more confortable seat (in Bandung was average) and cooler aircon. Anything else? competion in ticket price sounds good huh? Rp 20.000 – Rp 30.000 is acceptable, not to mention buy 1 get 1 promo.

If you want to check out what is today’s movie schedule, click Blitz Website .

<<update 18 May 2007>>
Ticket price is Rp 40,000 (Fri-Sun) and Rp 25,000 (Mon-Thu). This is regular western movie pricing. Asian and festival film have different price. For those HSBC Gold Card holder, Buy 1 Get 1 promo for weekend and silver card holder can enjoy cheaper price everyday (30-40% off regular price).

Soon it will open two new megaplex at One Pacific Place located at SCBD Jakarta and Mall of Indonesia at Kelapa Gading Square Jakarta.

Tough competition forces Cineplex 21 group to adjust their price at EX, Senayan, and Senayan City XXI (they all located near Blitz), from Monday to Friday now only have to pay Rp 25,000 per ticket. Meanwhile Friday to Sunday you have to pay Rp 50,000 although BCA Card promo buy 1 get 1 still apply on weekend.

Blood and Bloody Diamond

Last sunday I’ve been watching Blood Diamond. It was a good movie in my opinion, opening our mindset about diamond production and distribution around the world. And one more thing, Leonardo DiCaprio acts better in this movie than in The Departed.

I was surprised that he can act in a higher level than his previous movies. The Departed surely is his moment of acting development. Maybe because of Martin Scorcose direction.

Back to the blood diamond story, I was impressed by the film storyline, it could bring an impression that it was a half-true story. And at the end bring the message that when you buy a diamon jewerly, there is a chance it came from that bloody diamond.
