I did it

Ahah.. not so important, but just a little self-achievement. I got my new certificate, can be called as “Mozilla Firefox 3 Certified Downloader:)
Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

The certificate was given because I participated in Firefox 3 download on its launching date (Firefox Download Day: 6/17/08). FYI, Firefox 3 was downloaded by more than 8 million users in 24 hour period after its launching.

I guess I will print this certificate and frame it to put on my desk :)

How to Setup Reversed Proxy to Domino Web Server

Finally, the guy (Djitz) who successfully implemented reversed proxy posted his guide in setting reverse proxy to work with Lotus Domino Web server. Domino server used in this case is Domino 7.0.1.

The case might be like this: you have a domino web server, but it has only local IP address and will be kept like that. Then you have an Apache web server in which published as public/Internet IP address. Your company doesn’t implement neither RAS nor VPN. Now your boss wants to be able access his domino webmail or web applications from any Internet stations during his business trip. So how can Internet users access that local Domino Server? The answer is to implement Reversed Proxy.

Read complete guide at here. Thanks Djitz, this guide is invaluable!

Sun Buys MySQL

As usual, a good thing might turn worse in wrong hand. As Sun Microsystems plans to buy MySQL AB for USD 1 billion (yes, b, not m) you might think what the future is. According to Sun, MySQL market domination is around 80% while Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle take less than 10%.

Major Open-source MySQL Database Server users are small to middle companies in which budget is consideration. Since MySQL has reached version 5, it is very mature and stable not to mention its speed and reliability.

The purchase will be closed in Q3 or Q4 this year,we just can pray that MySQL is in the correct hand.

Creating GMail-like interface in Lotus Domino

As an IBM Lotus Domino Consultant a.k.a Developer, I have been spending almost 8 years in developing Domino Applications. My skill kept improving project after project. Until my age stop me, so in 2007 I don’t see myself improving nor learning new thing. Most of my time wasted in watching DVD or sleeping, yeah.. quite a busy year.

Reading Ed Brill introduction about WLM – Web Link Mail created by an Italian company, which could develop an NSF Mail Template that mimics GMail Interface, just open my eyes that I have been left behind the technology: CSS, AJAX, WebService, and the list keep adding each quarter.

Yes, you can try this WLM from its site, use trial username and password will bring you into its GMail-like interface. Some text is still in Italian but you can understand it quite easily. And wow, I believe you’ll love its clean interface, a bit better than Mail7.ntf but Domino Web Access still the best incorporating Mail and Calendar.

Link It WLM

By reading its promo page, I think Link Group product is a commercial template. It is not a free template for download. Okay, that makes you learn harder right?

Watching TV on demand via WOWtv

Indonesia just have a new TV channel. This time it is internet-based TV On demand as I believe the first player in Indonesia. Its name is WOWtv at http://www.wowtv.co.id . All you need is internet broadband access in which I believe still a luxury thing even in Jakarta. So the market is very small because you can’t offer this kind of TV to 3G Mobile phone users or to fixed-line Internet dial-up users.

You can subscribe by paying money for the channels. For example Basic Tier Package costs Rp 260.000 for a year for 12 channels. That is quite cheap for subscriber for a year. There is also 22 free channels that you can subscribe by filling application form. Another option is to choose pay per view using points.

For initial review, I just signed up for the free channel. Inputting my personal detail (I don’t know why they need my home address), finally all was set. And niamahh… It just didn’t play ! I’m using Mozilla Firefox 3.0 beta (minefield) and it just didn’t work! Sigh… fortunately this is free account. I can’t believe that they offer something that just don’t work. I was a bit lazy to try using another browser, but I assume it would be the same.

So just have to come back to the site couple days ahead and try my luck. Meanwhile for you to try, make sure you have unlimited internet data package before trying to subscribe to this service, even free service.

Visit Indonesia? It would be better to Visit Bali 2008 only

Visit Indonesia 2008

Don’t say if I’m not a nationalist. After living my entire life in Indonesia, I just can think a place in Indonesia as a tourist heaven: Bali. Other places are beautiful, but not much developed compared to Bali.

Indonesian Tourism just relaunch its website http://www.my-indonesia.info/ to promote year 2008 as Visit Indonesia year, if you know that 2007 is Visit Malaysia Year. The website is quite beautiful, but I think was built by some not-so-bright web developer. The website loading time is so slow because so many large images that were not compressed and resized. Although they display small but hi-res image, but it is not a wise solution. Total size for initial load if I can remember is 500KB, big isn’t it huh?

The main function of the website is to describe tourism places in Indonesia, suggesting accommodation and local taste. A good start but could be better with additional information. I cannot find any visa information in it, etc etc.

But I like the image library section. It is a section containing photos from different part of Indonesia and you can save it as desktop wallpaper. And some other sections describing beautiful places in narrated story. Quite inspiring.

Hey, miss one thing. The website should be multilingual! English is international language but not so international that Japanese, Chinese, or Taiwanese can read. That’s why Singapore Tourism Website offers  11 different languages to visitors. And after looking entire screen, finally I found language-switcher on very top of the screen, yeah.. available but not easy to reach. There are Indonesia, English, Deutsch, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Netherlands.

Okay, Let’s Go Indonesia..

KoranInternet.com : A New Detikcom Contender

Just get a link to a new website : KoranInternet.com

It is basically a starting-up internet online news, a contender for Detik.com which has been exist for nearly 10 years. Its website design and navigation also ‘very similar’  to detikcom (its Advertising banner is also very annoying, thanks to Opera to block its content ).

I think it still need many re-work on easier navigation  and news channel.
