Review: Sunway Pyramid Hotel

Sebagai turis, mengunjungi Sunway, sebuah kota satelit di pinggir Kuala Lumpur, sepertinya hanya mempunyai 2 tujuan, yang pertama adalah menjajal Pyramid Mall yang sangat luas, dan yang lebih penting lagi adalah tamasya di Sunway Lagoon (akan saya ulas di artikel blog mendatang). Karena lokasi Sunway yang cukup jauh dari pusat kota Kuala Lumpur, opsi utk tinggal di hotel Sunway menjadi cukup penting supaya tidak bolak-balik.

Ada 2 hotel yang mengelilingi Sunway Lagoon, yaitu Sunway Resort Hotel dan Sunway Pyramid. Pemiliknya sama, bedanya hanya pada rating. Sunway Resort Hotel berbintang 5, sedangkan Pyramid bintang 4. Tidak terlalu penting mengingat yang bintang 4 ini sudah sangat bagus, yang akan saya ulas di sini.

Saya book satu malam kamar ukuran double bed di Sunway Pyramid Hotel via agent, kira-kira USD 108 nett untuk Sabtu malam. Cukup mahal, namun mengingat kepraktisan lokasinya dan harga dollar yg menguat, dan include breakfast, bolehlah dicoba :)

Hotel Review: Amaris Cimanuk Hotel Bandung

On my recent visit to Bandung, I wanted to give a try to stay in one of Amaris chain hotels. Amaris is budget hotel brand by Santika Group, scattered across many cities in Indonesia. The 2-star Amaris hotels, can be found in Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Jogjakarta, even Ambon, published rates just below IDR 500,000 (\~USD 55). All Amaris may look the same, only three level tall, colourful design if you see hotel's facade.

Amaris in Bandung has 2 location to choose, one is at Cihampelas Road and the other at Cimanuk Road. I always try to avoid Cihampelas as the road is packed and jammed during weekend, so Cimanuk is better option when I bring my car. I booked directly via their call centre and I got rate IDR 450,000 for one Saturday night in Amaris Cimanuk, weekday must be cheaper.

Hotel Review: Phoenix Hotel Yogyakarta

As I had a work matter in Yogyakarta on last March, got a chance to stay in one of Accor Hotels group, named Phoenix Hotel Yogyakarta.

Located just short walk from Simpang Tugu, a landmark on the north of Yogya Sultan Palace, it is very convenient and walkable to the famous Malioboro shopping street. Whenever I got tired of walking, just hailed a becak to take me back to the hotel.

Categorized under Galery Mercure brand, means that this hotel has something special, not just a hotel. Phoenix Hotel brings out a sense of authentic javanese touch in ornaments and details. The building itself is classic, the one that erected before 20th century. Yep, it was built in 1819 by a Chinese businessman named Mr. Kwik Djoen Eng. If you have time and money, try to book suite room 221, it is called The Kwik Djoen Eng Suite, I believe it has many memorabilia of him in it.

Tidak ketinggalan biasanya terdapat review dari orang yang telah booking dan tinggal di hotel tersebut sebelumnya, sehingga sedikit banyak kita mendapat gambaran yang real dari hotel tersebut di luar deskripsi dari pemilik hotel sendiri.

Tune Hotel in London

One of the brave moves from AirAsia Group is the plan to operate Tune Hotel in Central London, UK. Scheduled to open its door in August 2010, this Tune Hotel will operate just like its chain in Malaysia and Indonesia: compete in low price.

Just like low-cost airlines, room rates are offered in different price levels. If we book well ahead, we may get cheapest rate compared to last-minute booking. Hotel amenities are basic, room only. Air con is optional and can be purchased in slot of 12 or 24 hours. Towels are optional, too, if you bring your own towel (which I don't prefer) then you don't have to pay for towel rental fee.

Hotel Review: Eurostars Gaudi Barcelona

Choosing hotel to stay in Barcelona is practically not a big problem. There are a lot of good hotels to choose at your preferred location.

Eurostars has many hotels in Spain, at many big cities like Madrid and Barcelona. This time, I am writing one of them, Eurostars Gaudi.

Located not far from Gaudi's masterpiece: La Sagrada Familia, Eurostars Gaudi offers great view to it. Choose a standard room, we'll get view to the in-progress church. Get an upgrade to junior suite, with a balcony, at the highest floor, the view will get better. The location is very convenience, at the corner of Consell de Cent street, just only 50 meter outside Monumental Metro station exit.
